OXO Steel Pop Storage Containers

Pinterest has given me wonderful ideas for the home, garden, crafts, cakes, etc. and is helping me get our home organized. I absolutely love these OXO Steel Pop Containers. These were purchased from Herberger's-  Target also has them but with white plastic tops. Living in the country, 45 minutes from a grocery store, our pantry is always well stocked. It's so much easier to be organized!

A steal of a deal....

I recently found an old bench at garage sale...yes that's right I go to garage sales and I like to!! It's amazing what some people think is junk is anothers treasure. I have been looking for a small bench for guests to sit on to put their shoes on or take them off. I came across this little bench for a whopping $10 of course I bought it right away.


I purchased the bench knowing that I couldn't stand the cream colored cover pad....I went to the local craft store and found some  vintage looking-stylish- and yet very stong material and recovered the bench all by my self! This is what it looks like now.


The bench looks great and and is just what we needed to set beside the door.

Working on the house continues......

Off with the old



On with the new!



I spent quite a bit of time taking down some dated wallpaper only to put more up! Paintable wallpaper....it's completely awesome. This has certainly added a lot of character to our office.

I spent most of Saturday completing the wallpaper project in our office. I used an inexpensive "Mocha Stained Glaze" from Lowe's and antiqued the wall as follows:



Step 1:  Apply glaze generously with a paint brush.
Step 2: Let set for 10-15 minutes





Step 3: Using a dry rag, wipe the glaze off until you have the desired look.
I used one of my Fiance's old t-shirts! lol :-)

Bye-Bye Wallpaper

After mowing the lawn Saturday it was time to work in the house. Since I'll be moving to the farm in September we've been working in the house as much as we can before I move in! Nothing is worse than painting around extra furniture.

One of my favorite things about the house we will be living in is: It's not a "cookie cutter" home it is older and has a lot of character. It is going to take some time and effort but we are excited to make some changes to make it feel more like "our home!" Today's project was removing wallpaper in the dining room. 

I peeled the top layer off which left paper backing and glue stuck to the wall. I figured paper should absorb water right? and eventually pull off...WRONG! Well maybe it does but I did'nt have the patience to sit and wait. So...I set to the shop in seach for window washer fluid......we were out, that's when I found my wallpaper destroying friend: Windex. I absolutely couldn't believe how easy taking wallpaper off could be without buying a steamer or special products for removal.

Here is what I did: Peal top layer of wallpaper off. Spray windex on generously, let set for a few minutes or until you see the paper bubbling. It completely releases the paper and nearly melts the glue right off. Once all the paper was removed wash the wall with warm water to get any extra glue cleaned off. The wall is now ready for to be painted! This worked wonders for me!

Ta-da...this picture doesn't show the color too well but under that wallpaper was a trendy light green color that has been hidden for years it went out of style and is back in style!!
